Why is Balazs Boxing equipment more expensive than other brands?
Balazs designs and manufactures products with the value-conscious consumer in mind. While Balazs’ products might cost more than other brands, Balazs provides a much better value. By using stronger, more robust materials such as thick wall steel tubing, we build in the sturdiness that can be found only in Balazs’ products. In addition, when you buy Balazs Boxing mounting equipment, you’re buying a product that is made in USA.
How are Balazs Speed Bag platforms different from the speed bag platforms I see in my local sporting goods store?
The primary difference is performance. A speed bag platform’s resistance to vibration determines its performance. When hitting a speed bag, you want it to transfer as little energy as possible to the platform. In other words, you want the bag to rebound off the platform with virtually the same speed that it hit the platform with. A platform that is prone to vibration will suck the energy out of the speed bag with every rebound, resulting in poor performance and a very frustrating experience for you. It will also be very loud and annoying to anyone within a close distance. Conversely, a platform that is resistant to vibration will be a pleasure to use, providing good rebound, and low noise. The two factors that determine a speed bag platform’s vibration resistance are its design and weight.
The speed bag platforms you are most likely referring to are very inexpensive and designed really only for home use by the recreational user. Using thin angle iron, thin wall tubing and thin fiberboard drums, these platforms have a very low cost, and a corresponding very low performance.
By contrast, Balazs speed bag platforms use thick steel plates for mounting points, 11 Gauge tubing for the main structure, and solid maple hard wood drums-manufactured exactly the same way as the finest butcher block in the world. The combination of these attributes result in ultra-stiff, heavy, speed bag platforms that will exceed the performance expectations of even the most discerning user.
The secondary difference is aesthetics. We design our products not only to outperform others in the industry, but also to outclass others in the industry. We want our products to be the centerpiece of your fitness area. To this end we choose to powder coat, not paint, our steel products. A powder coated finish is much more resistant to scratches than paint, so it will keep our products looking like new for an extra-long time. We also choose to use solid maple butcher-block for our speed bag drums because of its natural beauty. You will be proud to have our products mounted on your walls, because while they perform great, they also look great.
What does “11 gauge” steel mean?
When manufacturers mention ”gauge” they are referring to the thickness of the wall of the steel tubing used. The smaller the number, the thicker the steel. Thicker steel provides a more rigid, heavier and longer lasting product.
What is rebound?
Rebound is the ability for a speed bag to bounce back once it hits the drum. The better the rebound the faster and more reliably the bag will bounce off the drum and return. This results in a better workout, better bag control and an overall enjoyable workout. A speed bag platform with poor rebound will vibrate, absorb the power you put into the bag and basically sap the fun from your workout.
Why do you have two wood drum sizes? Is one better?
We offer two size drums for flexibility. The larger 30”drum is heavier, resulting in the most solid rebound possible. Experts and professionals or users who want the best will choose the 30” version. But because it is heavier, it is also harder to move, so the smaller 24”drum is better for people who will be adjusting the platform frequently and without assistance.
What size speed bag will the 24” drum accept? The 30” drum?
Both the 24” and 30” drums will accept all size speed bags-from monster 10”x 13” bags to little 5” x 8” peanut bags.
